Avatar for mail

Avatar in e-mail and what it is for

Avatar in an e-mail is an image on the left side at the beginning of the line, next to the sender's name, that will make you stand out in the recipient's inbox. Given that the reader's eye usually moves from left to right, an avatar is the first thing the user will see. If you have a bright and recognizable avatar, it's an extra chance not to get lost in the inbox.

If you haven't set an avatar yet, it will be automatically generated by the e-mail client from the first letters of the sender's address. In this case it will be a circle of any color with one or two large contrasting letters.

In each service, the avatar is configured in its own way, but not all services support customization option for avatar. This article is written about the main services that support avatar customization: Gmail and Yahoo.

Gmail

Sign in to your Google Mail account and go to your profile settings (avatar on the left - Manage Google account). Select Personal information --> Contact information --> E-mail section:

Go to Advanced settings -–> Additional e-mail addresses:

Add new e-mail address you want to send mailings from. Confirmation e-mail will be sent to it (may end up in your spam folder). Click the link - then the address will be linked. If the e-mail message does not come, click Send confirmation to duplicate it.

In the main account (to which you linked the new e-mail), click on profile settings then click on profile photo:

Upload your avatar in the form and click Set as profile photo. Uploaded avatar will be applied to the main Google profile and to the linked additional e-mail addresses.
